Welcome to the ABNI website

ABNI was established in November 2004 by the Government to advise and report on the processes of assessment of an understanding of English and Knowledge of Life in the UK required of applicants for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK and British Citizenship.

The Board advises on ways in which existing language and citizenship resources and support services might be developed and on future development of study programmes.

The Board is designated as an Advisory Non-Departmental Public Body (ANDPB) and is chaired by Mary Coussey and supported by 12 Board members.

ABNI published its second annual report on 29th November 2007 which is available to view in the Publications section.
